Emil Spieler

Skills, digitalisation and project management for the energy transition, in international development cooperation.

About

I work in international development cooperation — with strong experience in project management, advisory support and monitoring for multi-million-euro programmes commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Union, implemented through GIZ.

My main focus is the skills and labourmarket dimension of the energy transition: developing green hydrogen and renewable energy training systems, and designing vocational qualifications together with national partners and industry. More recently, my work has moved into the diplomacy and geopolitics of the energy transition. Commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office, I work for a team that coordinates dialogue between governments, research institutions and the private sector on decarbonisation pathways.

I bring experience in high-level stakeholder engagement, research, a strong interest in digitalisation and knowledge management, and a results orientation grounded in monitoring and evaluation — built over many years across Sub-Saharan Africa and Germany.
